Uhm, I don't think anybody said this but you should play Eternal Darkness it got high ratings a 9.6 on IGN and a 9.5 or was it 9.8 on GameSpot. You can still look -up the old reviews... matter of fact here's how confident I am that you should play this game :

Also Fire Emblem is very fun. It is my favorite RPG. It took me a Chapter to get used to the main story telling vehicle (text and pictures) after the awesome cut scene but once you get into the meat of the conflict you soon don't care any more. Also turn off the battle animations.

lol 18 times, I "only" beat it 8 times, but it's truely one of the best games ever!

Eternal Darkness was the best game of last generation if you ask me. Not sure if the Lovecraftian horror/3rd person game is really up Soriku's alley though.

Fire Emblem is a "strategy" game, a pretty linear one as well. Not every RPG fan loves Strategy games
