Forums - Sony Discussion - New FAQ from Sony regarding the PSN hack situation

If i knew you. worked or went to school with you. I would be able to get the same info that sony did not encrypt.

Not true at all. I never give out my passwords, or log-ins if I can avoid that but that is often the same as display name. I also very rarely give out my email address so it is unlikely you would get that either unless I felt you had a reason to email me. You sure as hell wouldn't get any potential answers I would give to password recovery questions. There is absolutely no reason to leave that data unencrypted.

At least they are answering questions.  If my address and name and birthday was stolen, I could quite frankly not give a crap, it isn't like people can't get that information quite easily as it is.

And what about your password or secret question answers?  Hope you don't reuse the same password elsewhere or have it easy to guess.  Lots of people use name/birthdays combos for passwords.  What about email addresses?  Look up some family members, do a little phishing...

Personal info like that is prime stuff for identity theft.

I actually already changed my passsword on all the other stuff involving money and the accounts I frequently use, so it doesn't matter.  It took a whopping 5 minutes.

So they encrypted the credit card details, that shows that they were'nt negligent and that they actually had some sturdy security backing it up, which also means that the hackers most likely haven't been able to get the credit card details or they are struggling to break the encryption, which could take years of effort on their part if it was what I'm guessing it was. It also shows that these hackers aren't the fourteen year olds playing around in their basements that we all so quickly identify thems as, they planned the fuck out of this thing and knew what they were doing. I also don't think that this has any direct connection to Anonymous, it may be indirectly connected, but Anon as a group didn't actually do it.

Bet with Conegamer and AussieGecko that the PS3 will have more exclusives in 2011 than the Wii or 360... or something.

Yea, I don't think it will be nearly as bad as people are making it out to be.  A lot of the lawsuit that was made even has arguments that Sony wasn't doing their job in regards to security, when now, I'm thinking that isn't necessarily true.  I think them saying this alone has made the story get 100x better, at least for Sony.

Yuppers. I have like the best bank in the world. Took them two minutes and I didn't have to pay.
