Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Iwata: Alliances with other firms are needed

Last time Nintendo screwed an Alliance we got the Playstation and three horrible Zelda games

(Reuters) - Nintendo said on Tuesday that alliances with other companies may be necessary, a day after the game maker reported its second straight fall in annual profit and said it would launch a successor to its ageing Wii console.[ID:nL3E7FP0W4]

"I now regret that we didn't tie up with someone outside the company to market the Wii. If we had done that, the fate of the Wii might have been different," Chief Executive Satoru Iwata said at a conference for investors and analysts.

"Now I am aware that we should not rely too much on ourselves. You will see what I mean by this when we market the 3DS and the Wii in the future."

Wait. Are they still going to market the Wii? Or Iwata was refering to Wii succesor?

Predictions for Nintendo NX and Mobile

Iwata is pretty honest about most things intellectually speaking I'd imagine he sees something he doesn't like that Nintendo can't fix directly. We'll see...

People are difficult to govern because they have too much knowledge.

When there are more laws, there are more criminals.

This is both puzzling and disturbing, because with better first party software strategizing, Nintendo could have more than fixed the problems of Wii on their own

Unless Nintendo's talking about their comparatively poor distribution networks compared to the competitors? It was mentioned in that other thread that they had plans to market the 3DS in developing markets, and Nintendo's always lagged in what we once called "Others," and has lagged in those non North-American/Japanese markets historically

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

I assume he means "we need third parties", obviously.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

He AND Reggie both were forthright about needing to improve online functionality for Nintendo systems in the future.

I'm pretty certain he's talking about the lack of cross-promotion with third party developers for core games. And I'm almost confident that this is one of MANY things that Iwata mentioned that he'd like to tackle and get fixed moving forward. Bloomberg clips one quote and you guys go bonkers....

I'm looking forward to seeing what they come up with.  I think alot rest on how well they do in this depatment going forward.

well at least the next console probably wont launch till next year. Meaning the "let's not release a console within 4 years of the last" plan was successful.
