Lonnie Hyrum Johnson, Serial Child Rapist, Will Be Set Free Due to Loophole In 2006, 38-year-old Lonnie Johnson was convicted in Washington State of raping a teenager. For reasons unknown, he would serve just a year in jail. But after he was convicted in Washington, his niece and her cousin in Utah would come forth with a tale of their own... Prior to his Washington rape, it seems Johnson had raped the two little girls for five long years, from 2001 to 2006. But they wouldn't come forward with their own ordeals until Johnson was busted in Washington. So prosecutors in Utah charged him with 24 felonies ranging from rape to sodomy to aggravated sexual abuse. Yet in 2008, Johnson was found mentally incompetent to stand trial. Instead, he was committed to a state mental hospital. And now it appears he may be released as early as today. He can't be charged with the felonies because he's been ruled incompetent. But under Utah law, he can no longer be forcibly hospitalized because a shrink has ruled that he's no longer a a threat to society. We're not sure how a serial rapist can no longer be deemed a threat, but we don't have a doctorate. He'll still be required to register as a sex offender. But it seems prosecutors won't get another crack at keep him incarcerated until he rapes again.

That's ridiculous.

There has always been something extremely screwed up with the US justice system. 

This is a good example of that.  Makes me sick.

Because every justice system is perfect......

OT: Fucked up, he should be behind bars.

It should be noted, the US is actually harsher on rapists then most countries.

As for why he may no longer be considered a threat to society.... there are two kinds of people who rape children.

A) Pedophiles, AKA people who find children attractive. (Although in this case it looks ike Hebephillia... maybe?  Doesnt' say the ages of his neice and cousin.

B) Stress based rapists.  People who rape children because they are under their power and becasue they are under stress and often regress in social skills and such and become hopeless.  These people weren't always pedophiles.

Group A can be treated by never cured... which it's why it's important to have outreach programs for pedophiles to get treated before they "strike" though we rarely do because well, being a pedophile isn't taken too kindly.  (for obvious reasons.)  The best way to prevent a pedophile from striking is to get them help before they strike. 

Group B Actually can be rehibilitated and show much lower recidivism rates.  Though i'm reluctant to guess...

one case could be that he was a stress based rapist who just raped those in his power because of some sort of mental disorder causing a lot of stress on him and causing him to devolve into it.

With the mental disorder cured, it's unlikely he would rape again. 

Of course, this could be true of group A as well.  Group A could involve someone who is attracted to children, but would never think of harming them, and realize they're feelings are wrong... but then if they develop a mental disorder like say... being bi-polar... it could cause them to offend.

All the more reason we need stronger pedophillia outreach programs.
