Forums - General Discussion - How did you do on your SATs?

Didn't take the SAT's.  We had the ACTs.

I scored the equivelnt of a 1510-1550 then which was like the equivlent of a 2130 now I guess.

That was the second try, first try was a 1350 - 1980.

Didn't study either time.  Just knowing how a test is taken seems to help.

I don't know what you are talking about and any attempt at explaining it to me will result futile.

I only got a 23... I wasn't very smart back then.

Thats not too bad...I know one of the kids in my class who had a 3.4 GPA average only got a 19 on it.

Yeah, I knew someone who averaged like a 3.8 and got a 19.

The thing about the ACT is it doesn't test intellegence, or how much you know, so much as flexability of thinking, and how easy it  is for you to learn.

It's like an IQ test.  It correlates with intellegence but isn't an end all be all.

I mean, i can do analogies and "what does tis word mean" questions all day long.  All that means is i'm good at interpreting stuff.

I mean, that and the Science tests... it's more "how" you think, now how good you are at thinking.

Also, though it goes up to 36 (higher now I think?)  It's average is like just 19 or so.

And what subjects do you have to take at the exam?

Mathematics and Reading. They recently added a Writing section, though, most universities don't really care.

Reading? They actually make you read? Is it an oral exam?

No, you read  stories/essays/etc and answer questions about them.

Oh, I see.

I got a 32 on a practice ACT. I'll take the real thing later this month. Does anyone know about what that converts to for an SAT?

1420... not counting the writing section.

I seem to remember a 1350 on the 1600 scale. None of the schools cared about the writing score at the time, so i never bothered to memorize it.

ACT i think i scored in the 98th percentile, but i don't remember the number. It was the SAT Subject tests i did best on, at least for US History and World History, near-perfect scores on both
