Forums - PC Discussion - 12 Ways Consoles Are Hurting PC Gaming

@kasz  your wasting your time if there was such a person that would go through all that just to play SNES games on PS3 then more power to him.  I never stated that FPSs werent dumbed down on consoles, that wasnt what i was implying. i know they Ironically i have orange box for PS3 (it was like 10 bucks) and ive never touched Team Fortress 2, didnt look interesting, but thats me, Thing is im just not into FPSs like that so to me it doesnt really matter if there dumbed down or not, if i can get the meat and potatoes of the game then thats all i really care about

Oh, I know.  I just find it amusing to post inbetween TF2 rounds.

Not sure what kind of games you like... but in general, the only games not dumbed down tend to be JRPGs, and that's only because they rarely get PC releases.

Though honestly, even some JRPGs have mod tools, despite not being released on the PC.   Apparently you can rip your CD, patch the ISO and play it in a modded system and get new storys, new characters, rebalanced gameplay...

I just found this out last week noticing mention of it on a gamefaqs board.

The rom hacking community for gamboy games and some NDS games is actually quite active as well, especially pokemon hacks...

@kasz  fighting games are my thing and they dont really have a super large community on PCs oh they got SF4 but all after the fact and no way in hell was i waiting to play that. That RPG mods sounds cool as hell, but i dont even have the time and energy to get into that.

Its not that hard once you downgrade the PS3 to 3.40...

^^^ for one im not doing that i want to be able to play ALL my PS3 games not some and 2 it can never be easier than typing in "SNES emulator" in google and hitting the download button and 3 i already have SNES, 32x, N64, NES, Sega CD emulators on my PC

Cool story bro.

Well if developing games was as easy as imagining the characters, the environments, the settings, the scenes, the weapons, the effects etc then magically put everything it into a disc. And even after that, make it so that people will buy your sh-t and hope to make a profit and everyone lived a happily ever after. Yeah the PC gamers have the right to complain.

What a bullshit article, its piracy that's hurting PC gaming. PC isn't the main focus of developers because it generates significantly less profits than consoles.

Developers could definitely raise the bar by taking advantage of modern PC gaming technology. But what's the point? The masses are just going to steal it.

Yeah, it's as simple as that.

And the consoles have the used game market, which hurts the developers more than any piracy. Even if you assume piracy is as bad (which is a luaghabley wrong assumption in itself), the used game market is worse.

OMG I know it's old news but every time I am reminded you don't see the difference between the developer being paid for every copy of the game and the developer not being paid, my mind boggles all over again.

As for the article, I could argue the specific points, but I'd rather just stick to the entirely obvious truth that, in terms of the points proving the thesis/title, or even in many cases being RELEVANT to that goal, the author completely fails.
