Are they really going to play games 20 years old? Those games are pirated to begin with. Only a handful is complaining about Linux/OtherOS, mainly hackers.

1. To play new games :)

2. I'm going to start using cfw and I have no intention of pirating games

Pros:

Open system.

Cons:

Warranty and PSN access removed (and now bannings).

Of course, it also depends on why do you want an open system, but whatever the reason, the jailbreak is at your own risk, so if you don't know what you're doing, stay with the official firmware.



The dishonest people will rant and rave about how it allows them to have full control of the system they bought so they can run homebrew applications on it and backup their games, the honest people will tell you it allows them to play games for free.

There are exceptions but the above is pretty much the norm.
