Who said it was surprising?

As of early March 2007 nine men charged with Australia's largest terrorist conspiracy were undergoing committal hearings at Penrith for alleged crimes associated with a plan to attack Sydney's Lucas Heights Nuclear Reactor. The men have been in a maximum security jail since 2005 when police and security agencies raided homes in Sydney and Melbourne, arresting a total of 18 men. Nine men face terrorism charges in Melbourne.

Police allege the Sydney men had been urged by their Muslim cleric leader to inflict maximum damage for the sake of jihad. Police said the men had attended terrorist training camps in Australia, stockpiled chemicals to make explosives and that one of them was found with 165 railway detonators at his home. The hearing is expected to run for two months.

We don't provide the 'easy to program for' console that they [developers] want, because 'easy to program for' means that anybody will be able to take advantage of pretty much what the hardware can do, so the question is what do you do for the rest of the nine and half years? It's a learning process. - SCEI president Kaz Hirai

It's a virus where you buy it and you play it with your friends and they're like, "Oh my God that's so cool, I'm gonna go buy it." So you stop playing it after two months, but they buy it and they stop playing it after two months but they've showed it to someone else who then go out and buy it and so on. Everyone I know bought one and nobody turns it on. - Epic Games president Mike Capps

I don't see anything relating to terrorism in his post. If he wants to shoot at American soldiers, then he can do it all he wants, because that's what soldiers are for.

What he describes is pretty much a regular FPS with the roles changed anyway. Should the German authorities be alerted if anyone who's ever played a WW2 shooters wants to enter their country? I see you've got a bunch of CoD games as well as Wolfenstein on your owned games list, so you better watch out.

(I edited my earlier post a bit, since either yours got edited as well, or I totally failed at reading it)

What's so surprising about that, sinha? Of course he'd rather play as the side that he has more in common with. There are probably a bunch of games and movies already on the way that portray the Americans in Iraq as selfless heroes, while everyone who doesn't like them is a terrorist or a member of "pro-Saddam militia".

I have to admit I didn't read his first post all that closely, and now that I do it seems a bit questionably phrased even to me. That being said, we could still use some variety, and less of a 100% American viewpoint in every single game.

You have to take this in context with his last two bans, both of which were for anti-simitic and extremely inflammatory comments.  Which is a viewpoint consistant with radical islam and some terrorists groups.  Maybe thats not what he believes in, but thats the picture he has painted of himself.

As for the topic itself:

If developers want to make this game that is their choice, if publishers want to publish the game it is their choice. And if Americans choose not do business with those publishers and devleopers anymore as a result, it too is their choice.  Would I appreciate a video game where the goal is to kill Americans?  Of course not.  But I would still defend anyone's right to make that game if they wanted to and once they did I would be the first guy in line to boycott it.

To Each Man, Responsibility

As an Australian ive gotta say, the wording of the thread opener is a little suss. That said, the fact that the guy is a muslim doesn't mean he actually WANTS to kill Americans. At the same time, i would suggest to misteromar mk4, that listing your religion in the 'region' section and then going on a rant about how games should mimic a current real-world war where American's are dying and furthermore suggesting the exact method of many of their deaths (ied's) be included in the game, does not reflect well on you at all.

starcraft - Playing Games = FUN, Talking about Games = SERIOUS

I'm not familiar with OP's other posts (can't remember posters with no avatar..), so I'll just take your word for it, and concede that he might very well be an asshole.

This just might be Rockstar's next big project after people get desensitized with extreme violence and schoolboys kissing each other. =P

Exactly.

So you, being in Finland, may not care Parokki, but maybe some Australian will be sufficiently worried to call 1800 123 400 and tell Australian National Security to keep an eye on Omar the radical Islamic student at the Curtin University of Technology, who happens to be rabidly anti-semitic and who thinks "it would be good to be killing americans" in video games and would like to "kill as many as possible."

There would be an awful lot of settings to choose from if one didn't have to have one with the americans in the lead role.
How about a WW2 FPS where you take part in events BEFORE D-Day?
It'd be cool playing a belgian, french or even nordic partisan who could technically go into german occupied cities to take supplies, sabotage etc or who could roam the hills solo or with a companion with a sniper rifle and no CO's orders to mind!
That's the kinda game I'd like to play!

Or what about a WW1 shooter? I've never played one of those.

i agree is it really so hard to fucking make different countries and you can select which one you want.

Some british or german soliders be cool too. Even Russian soliders.

"Region: Islam" LOL, I could not stop laughing when you pointed it out.

There was a game a while ago, "Under Siege" (think that what it was called) where you played as a Palestinian and fought israelii soldiers. Was not that great, just a quake mod basically.

It would be nice though to play a game in a war setting that is not from a american point of view, even a neutral point of view would be great. Allot of games, especially ww2 shooters are just so gun-ho pro american shit, that are very corny.

I remember a while ago some interview with cod or moh makers and they said how they did not want glorify war and spoke to veterans to get insights and such. Load of shit really because the other side are human beings too, maybe with different ideology and such. But if they make out one side to be evil humans and one side to be hero's, this nothing but glorying war.

Even if they split a ww2 shooter in to 2 campaigns. One for allies side and one from the axis side. This way you could get to see both sides of the coin.

But people are probaly right, it wont happen because the game would nt sell great in the usa. On the other hand if was controversal enough, maybe this would make it very well known and ppl would want to see what its like. I doubt any company would have the balls to do it.
