Forums - Nintendo Discussion - I bought a DS! game suggestions please!

so i just bought a DS last night and it will probly be comming some time after the holiday maybe even in time for my birthday!

but anyway im looking for great DS games of all kinds especialy ones that utilise the touch screen or dual screens in unique and interesting ways

An example of this would be "the world ends with you" i tried that game and was REALLY impressed by the way they utilised both touch screen commands for spells and the dual screen for battling

dosnt have to be just innovative games but extra points for those

i know you guys love your DSes so help me build my library!

Chrono Trigger DS is a must for any DS owner

If you like story driven games I'd heavily recomend Professor Layton and the Unwound Future

Also Mario Kart DS is really great for consuming time, so is NSMBDS

chrono trigger is a great suggestion! never got to finish it... got pretty far but lost my save and didnt get the motivation to pick it up again this is a great opportunity to get back to it

mario games are a given :P

i've heard of professor layton but not unwound future but i dont know much about either i'll have to investigate

Keep em coming people! :D

Nintendogs uses the DS's capabilities in a very fun and imaginative way. The Zelda DS games are also very good, and make good use of the DS. The Professor Layton games, Scribblenauts and Ninja Gaiden Dragon Sword are also great choices.

Games that don't necessarily make use of the DS's capabilities, but are great games regardless: New Super Mario Bros., Mario Kart DS, Chrono Trigger, the DS Castlevanias, Final Fantasy III & IV, Dragon Quest IX, and the DS Pokemon games.

Have fun with your new DS!

Glad you think about Chrono Trigger, the DS version has a couple of cool new dungeons.

About Professor Layton, the puzzles are really great, but if you're not a puzzle fan better not pick it. Still the story will make you cry.

Well pretty much every single Nintendo published title is gold. Third party titles however depends on your tastes. I loved FF:CC:RingOfFates. Also Custom Robo arena (A Nintendo published title) is good too. In the end I have to say I loved Nintendo's games so much that I didn't really bother getting many other publishers titles.

If you're into RPGs, Dragon Quest IX is a must.  Your profile says you have Okami, so I would recommend Okamiden when it is released next year.  And as you have the original FF Tactics, FFT A2 is highly recommended as well

Kirby Power Paintbrush (Canvas Curse in the US) uses the touch screen the best out of any game I've played, and it's a good platformer.

Advance Wars Dual Strike or Days of Ruin are excellent turn-based strategy games that are easy to pick up but have depth.

gta chinatown wars, the best game of the nintendo ds

Phoenix Wright 1, 2, and 3
Chrono Trigger
Dragon Quest 4, 5, and 9
Final Fantasy 4 DS
Professor Layton 1, 2, and 3
Animal Crossing Wild World
Mario Kart DS
Yoshi's Island DS
Kirby Superstar
Shin Megami Tensei DS (Devil Survivor)
The World Ends With You
Suikoden Tierkreiz
Apollo Justice
Ace Attorney: Edgeworth

Are some of my favourite games. Phoenix Wright 3 is my overall favourite, but all three games link together so you sort of need to get all of them... Plus the professor Layton and Phoenix Wright crossover game looks to be one of the top titles on 3DS early on.

For Dragon Quest, DQ9 will easily give the most gameplay; but Dragon Quest 5 is perhaps the most rewarding 40 hours you'll get in a DS RPG (or maybe any RPG)... The story starts off with the main character as a child, and it follows him through his life; there are different wives that can be chosen, and as a result a large amount of replay value (as the dialogue is vastly different depending on who you take); plus it has an optional commentary feature which has party members comment on every event, every person talked to, and every location entered (essentially press Select, and the character will speak to the party members).

Also the version of Pokemon on DS is actually an RPG too (Pokemon Platinum) with a surprising amount of content; it doesn't have a story that is as strong as other games, but it is very fitting.
