The 2010 Video Game Awards debuted the full teaser trailer for the upcoming Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception by developer Naughty Dog for the PlayStation 3. Since then, Jimmy Fallon aired an onstage gameplay demo featuring an action-packed level in which Nate and Sully were forced to traverse their way through a burning chateau while fending off enemy forces. Later, the press was given the chance to preview a longer cut of the fiery demo, showcasing some of Drake’s newest attacks and abilities. Below, we’ve detailed the revealed game mechanics debuting in Nathan Drake’s newest adventure.

Drop Attack
One of the most devastating new attacks, Nathan can quickly drop down onto enemies below him, instantly dispatching them. In the demo, Nathan is being shot by a mercenary on the floor below him. During a pause in the gunfire, Nathan can jump over the broken railing and attack the mercenary with his hands clasped together in a large fist. Using all of his force, he quickly connects his attack to his enemy’s head, instantly silencing him. It kind of reminds us of Ezio’s drop down stealth kill from Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood, but with upfront fists instead of hidden blades.

Grab Kick
The hand-to-hand combat has been completely changed in Uncharted 3, allowing for more flexibility in attacking multiple enemies at the same time or while alternating between targets. Although this is all well and good for our buddy Nate, his enemies have learned some new tricks as well and can double-team our poor pal with their own attacks. For example, one enemy can grab Nathan from behind while another deals out punches. Fortunately for Nate, he has a new kick attack that he can execute to hit enemies in front of him while he’s being held. From there he can easily escape his captor’s deadly hold and continue kicking butt.

Bottle Break
Not shown in the demo, developer Naughty Dog has detailed an intriguing environmental attack that involves breaking a bottle. Whenever Nathan is pinned up against an object with a bottle next to it (at Sully’s Bar perhaps?), he can grab the bottle and use it as a weapon, breaking it over his captor’s head for a stylish escape. We’re unsure if you can pick up bottles and wield them at will, but how awesome would it be if Nathan could pick up anything and use it as a weapon a la Dead Rising? One can only dream of improvised, Jackie Chan butt-whooping in an Uncharted game.

Moving Grapple
Unlike previous Uncharted games, Drake's Deception will feature the ability to grapple onto objects that move with realistic physics, not just objects that break or fall after a set action. In the demo, Nate must cross a fiery chasm by swinging his way across a chandelier. The chandelier sways according to his force and can be manipulated by leg pushes or simply just climbing around on it.
Side Shimmy
Nate has always been able to shimmy forward across horizontal bars, walls, or tree trunks, but now he can shimmy sideways with his back to the wall. This still requires balance, so maneuvering Nate across a collapsing, burning piece of wood like in the demo will require some focus and a responsive finger.
