Forums - Sony Discussion - Possible 2011 PS3 SKU's

I am sitting here thinking about what models/ bundles of PS3 Sony should have going forward in 2011, so I will just write them below for your enjoyment!

1) Sony drops the $399 320 gig Move (sports champions) to $299 opposed to the current $399, and ceases production on all other current models, (thus selling other skus for less at retail to clear the chanel).

Simultaneously;

2) Sony introduces a new Move sku that includes a larger hard drive but instead of sports champions they bundle in Killzone 3. They also would pack in the navigation sub controller, so the full Killzone- Move experience could be had by all. The kicker of this bundle is that it also marks the return of backwards compatability to this sku only. So to sum it up, it would be a .....     500 gig Move (Killzone 3) Full BC at $399.

Both of these options should be launched at, or closely after the Killzone 3 launch imo. These 2 options are perfect as Sony would finally have a bundle worthy of keeping the $400 price tag around a while longer. Sales of Move would skyrocket if it was included in every PS3 available, and a clear separation could still exist between the core and casual type users who choose to buy the PS3 with Move being the force that binds them together.

The real advantage of this plan is that it allows the Move sku to be the intro price model, which is what it should be. IMO the more casual oriented sku should be the cheaper model offered and it should include the Move (unlike Sony's current set-up)

And if you think Sony isnt already thinking about some sort of ultimate BC PS3 (like the one I suggested above) then.... I think you are wrong. Just my opinion :)

The exact timing of these skus could be adjusted to around the holidays but if Sony were to intoduce them in early 2011 that would be a major boost, then they could shuffle the sku's/ prices around at Christmas 2011 for another insane boost in sales.

what does everyone think?

Have a better PS3 sku/model/features idea ... ?  Lets hear it genius!

sony will drop the pirce to $249 or $199 on regular sku and the move sku will be $299.

2012 sony will launch PS3 SLIM and call it slim this time.

oh yeah and the Move sharpshooter peripheral could be included into the $400 sku as well.

im sure most of you have seen it, but if not;

I would not be suprised if this is something Sony does do, ( I like my dream suks better) but still remains the problem of the sku that is bundled with their core audience device (the move) being the more expensive option...

Sony needs to think of how to position a PS3 move sku against Nintendo and Microsofts cheaper options.

I still belive that sooner or later we will see PS3 SKU with built in PS2 hardware.

Let me preface by saying that I have lent my PS3 to a nephew and the last time I did this (with my Wii), I ended up buying a new one, rather than asking for it back.  So I have a vested interest in a good PS3 bundle coming out soon.

That being said, I don't foresee Sony bundling the Move, Nav controller, KZ3 and backward compatibility for $399.  As tantalizing as that sounds to me as a consumer, it seems like Sony would be using the items that they aren't having problems selling (Nav controller, Move and probably KZ3) to marginally increase the sales of the PS3.

While I agree that those things add value to the bundle (for the consumer) I would guess that the margins for Sony would be minimal with the only upside being small gains in America (where competition is toughest for them) and larger gains in Others and Japan.  Just seems like a high cost, low reward scenario, and therefore unlikely IMO.

TBH, I'd guess the standard SKU's next year (not counting special bundles) would remain the same till mid-year or so and then possibly have $50 price cut.

A cheaper MOVE bundle would be cool - how about the 160gb preloaded with several cool MOVE games like Flight Control, Planet MiniGolf, Beat Sketcher and Sackboys Prehistoric Moves? And maybe pack in Start the Party too?? All that for $249 would be highly tempting...
