Should I also add "mod's decision voting system"? As in, plurality only counts when I happen to notice it.

IMO Plurality voting is fine to use if the deadline is reached and there is no majority. In Round 23 day one is the only one which reached hammer through plurality(And as most of us pointed out plurality was reached long before the day ended on a different lynch) and not majority. I'll go over my reasons for disliking plurality voting as the system for reaching hammer after the current round is over.
Rainbird said: This looks like a good place to ask. I'm looking to start work on a website, that I'll be doing mainly for my own enjoyment. But I still want it to have some enticing features/content. And I was thinking about creating a website where forum games (and Mafia/Werewolf in particular) are integrated into the experience, so it's no longer a forum with gaming in it, but a forum where games are integrated into the experience. Here's what I have so far: You can use it for Mafia in two ways. 1) Everyone playing are members on the site, and every game will be manageable through the site. When a mod starts a game, they can decide what rules to use, what roles to use, etc. All the regulations that follow with these things will then be enforced by the site. For example, when it's night, all posting is turned off for everyone and the Mafia have a private thread that only they and the mod can see. People with special powers would be able to do their thing and so on, and non of them have to report back to the mod, because the website records all these things, and shows them to the mod. 2) Not everyone playing are members on the site, so the game can't take place on it, but the site can still be used by the mod to keep track of things. So instead of spreadsheets or whatever tools you use to keep track of things, you use the website instead, making it easier to see what's going on and control what's happening, although it still requires more manual labor than #1. Basically, what I want to know is this: is there any point in me doing this? Do any of you guys want this? And if yes, got any suggestions on what should be implemented? I'd love to hear what you'd want from it, and how to make it better. Finally, there is no timeline here. I have no idea when, if ever, this site will be 100% done or in a usable state. I want to do it, but it's going to be a pet project of mine, and I need to dedicate time to my education and social life as well. |
The idea sounds pretty awesome, but I don't know about the logistics. For instance, if you have to register on your site to use it, I forsee issues getting players to migrate from VGC to your site. And once they're there, I forsee issues with getting new blood for future games (the attrition rate is pretty significant in VGC Mafia).
Still, as I say, it sounds pretty sweet.
[edit: If you participate in some of those other mafia game communities I have seen in links off of mafiawiki etc., do they lack similar features? Do you think they would also be interested in your site? Pulling from multiple sources could help make up the lack I mention above.]

I have the most epic death scene ever in VGChartz Mafia. Thanks WordsofWisdom!

Yeah, the logistics are definitely the biggest challenge, which is why I want to build it so it can be used as a tool for mods to keep track of things as well. That way it might get some usage.
I'm also thinking of ways to easing people into creating an account on there, so it might hopefully work out.
But I'm glad to know that someone likes the suggestion.

I've looked around a bit, and I think everyone is just using normal forums for their games, although I haven't been all that thorough. The mafiawiki guys seem to be using a very cookie cutter forum, and I have been thinking about seeing what demand would be like from them, but I'd rather start small with people I know, and people I would much rather provide this service to.
It's not so much about building some great website with a thriving community, as much as it is something I can tinker with in my spare time and have fun with, and that's something I think VGCers will accept more readily than a forum filled with people dedicated to this one game will.
