Forums - Sales Discussion - Microsoft asking retailers to pull Kinect pre-orders

Why spend 500 million on Kinect Launch when you have No Kinects to Sell

More like Fail more like it. MS, you should know something called "Impluse buying", its what's driving 3D TV sales at the moment. The Kinect is like an 3D TV.

so true

PLAYSTATION®3 is the future.....NOW.......B_E_L_I_E_V_E

Agreed - don't understand why you'd create a hype train if you didn't have Kinects to sell in the first place.  Maybe they're hoping for Epic legs like the Wii - where you had to sell one of your children to get one.  Highly unlikely MS - sell them while people want them.  They're risking a novelty drop-off.

well it says local retailers. I can see that happening. I'm sure the orders from amazon, wal-mart, best buy, etc. are so large that they can't guarantee that the 20 the small shop ordered will get all of them on the release date. Maybe they will only get 10 release day and the other 10 a couple weeks later. I'm sure they did not plan on so many shops in the UK to be selling out and are re-appropriating the supply.

Basically, they're telling them that they may not get all they ordered and that they may piss off customers if they allow pre-orders before they know how many they have in stock. Sounds reasonable and expected for any item with high demand.

Yet an other thread creat by a mad sony fan talking shit about kinect, why don't you guys go to your move failure thread

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

I don't see why the number of preorders so far has to equal the number shipped; more likely the number shipped is going to equal what shops have preordered, so therefore not every shop will be unable to take more preorders.

If gamestop ordered 100k and has 50k preordered by customers, they can accept more preorders
If game has 50k ordered and 50k preordered, they can't accept anymore preorders because they can't get anymore stock from Microsoft

At least that's what I'm thinking, it would explain how preorders can be low-ish yet some places selling out

Have you ever heard of over stocking??

Just because people pre-ordered the device doesnt automaticly mean a purchase,

maybe they are playing it safe........face it Kinect will be a huge success

Can't wait for this to actually SHIP now, sick of these pre order threads and all the conspiracy theory's by a certain set of people!

Let's see them argue cold hard numbers.

Argument 1:

Side 1: Kinect is selling out so much MS can't even keep up with demand! Awesome! *Punches up in air*

Side 2: Publicity stunt. Stupid M$, trying to create false shortage to create buzz and generate sales like Wii.

Argument 2:

Side 1: Kinect is going to have a HUGE opening. It'll definitely sell 3 M units this holiday.

Side 2: Yea, then it'll drop off when everyone realizes it doesn't work.

Side 1: Something about Move.

Side 3: Posting with good intentions

Me: Posting about everyone elses posts without posting anything new nor creating my post to be a post about anything besides posts. POST!

Most likely Microsoft is holding back shipments to show how "well" Kinect is doing.

Kinect is a big gimmick. We know the product simply doesn't work and Microsoft is spending billions of dollars to make it look better than it is (rather than put that into the product itself).

I think that Kinect will end the Microsoft game division.

Funny how people are lured in marketing swindles. $500mil and can't get the shipped numbers to match it. I'll get mine after march, by then most of the casuals would loose interest in it and would even sell it for cheap.
