Modern Warfare 2 becomes top selling UK game… ever

See this, Dr Kawashima? This is danger close right up in your bespectacled face.

Chart-Track’s confirmed that Modern Warfare 2 is now the biggest selling British game of all time.

The Infinity Ward shooter achieved the feat this week, 41 weeks from launch. The game has spent only three weeks outside the top 10 since releasing in 2009.

MW2 has stolen the UK crown from Dr Kawashima on DS, which took around 36 months to overtake the previous holder, GTA: San Andreas on PS2, Xbox and PC.

As ever, no firm figures were released by Chart-Track. Suffice it to say, Modern Warfare 2 has sold “a lot”.

Activision will be looking for another CoD smash with Treyarch’s Black Ops on November 9.

I'd say that is pretty impressive.

I was about to say i was sad, but then i saw how it beat the casual monster.

We gamers might now always ally ourselves with CoD, but this is good news, just shows where the tides are turning.

This news saddens me

Except COD would be a classic example of a casual game before the definition of a casual game was changed to suit a few arguments.

VGChartz

Since Brain Training became the best selling game of the UK in July 2009, the game sold just over 3 million units.

By now it should have sold apprx. 3,3 million units.
Modern Warfare 2 therefore should have sold 3,4-3,5 million units.

Brain Training probably still is the best sold game on a single platform in the UK.

For those who still think that the UK market is bigger than Japan: according to vgchartz numbers there are 27 titles that sold over 3,4 million units, only counting single platforms.

Think for yourself, question authority

i don't really know how accurate are these things, i mean in here we get UK games and US games, does that mean if we buy these is like buying them in the UK ? , because outside of UK , US, Japan , almost all "Other" regions are not supported by the three companies , and thus there is no tracking those sales. instead it counts as a US or UK sale (not a lot buy the Japanese games)
