Vgchartz ratio for 360 is way off. As of May 2010 NPD the ratio is 9.0 and we all know how bad it does in EMEA compared to NA in terms of software. So 360 will be lucky to have overall tie ratio of 8 Worldwide. And MS doesnt even provide software shipment figures.

Didn't MS say they have the biggest ration in the industry with 8.8 at their latest earnings release?

MS uses NPD tie ratio not WW. They don't provide SF shipment figures unlike Sony and Nintendo.

In their earnings releases? Doubt it. They have to tell the truth, they can't just ignore some markets.

"I think they said 40 million consoles sold with a ratio of 8.8 leading the industry."  Or something like that.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

Its been explained by Source and many others already. MS uses NPD figures and not his own.

it sells good amount of software but it isn't so big software monster as some people think. If we align launches PS3 is actually ahead of it software wise.

It's not an accurate comparision to align PS3 and 360's tie ratio from launch because 2005 was a very slow year in terms of total software and hardware sales. This is because people knew the PS3 and Wii were comming, so many saved their money. Software sales only really started to kick off in 2007, and until this year have been continuously increasing.

So comparing PS3 first year sales/software sales in 2006 to 360 first year sales/software sales in 2005 is just completly innacurate. You don't compare 360 Holiday console sales to PS3 summer hardware sales, so why would you compare different years in gaming?

The best thing to do is compare 2007 sales and onward. By this point both the PS3 and 360 have dealth with stock/reliability issues, have firmly placed their brands name, and starded to expand their libraries. If you do this, 360 remains ontop. Only recently has PS3 software sales been above 360.

Kudos Microsoft

I've never actually heard this before, can you give the figures to prove it?

Well,

why would he need the proof when he can make the data up and then believe in it?

Maybe it's the fact that Sony was once on top of the mountain in this industry, and the fall from grace has been swift and brutal. The worst thing about being on top is the fall to the bottom, and maybe the transition from PS2 dominance to PS3 heel-dragging has had a damaging effect on the fanboy psyche, leaving them vulnerable and insecure. Maybe fanboys are suffering from a severe case of paranoid delusion, brought about by denial that the PS3 is in third place when once Sony was leading the charge.

X360 software year ago

PS3 software last week

and actually PS3 launched in Europe one and half year later so in reality the gap is even bigger if you align launches.

Uh, looking at that, PS3 tie ratio is nearly a point behind 360 "launch aligned" (7.1 to 7.93)?  Wii's pretty close to PS3 though (6.85 to 7.1), which is amazing given tie ratios tend to favor smaller bases.

Yeah. X360 tie ratio is better but PS3 has sold more software. Look at the totals. Thas was my point. And actually if you align european launch too tie ratio is probably pretty similar between PS3 and X360.

If you factor the NPD numbers to the rest of Vgchartz figures for Japan and Others then the 360 has an attach rate of 7.74.

If you take the NPD attach ratio of 8.9 and multiply it by consoles sold in NA then you see that Vgchartz has over tracked 360 software sales in NA by 47,599,137  units now when you take those numbers off of Vgchartz worldwide numbers and divide by total consoles sold you get the new attach ratio of 7.74 worldwide.

Of course to avoid bias you must assume that if the NPD 360 software attach ration is accurate than Vgchartz is also considerably over tracking the PS3 in the same region as they have the PS3 with 9.1 attach ratio in NA.

The thread's about tie ratios though, so I'm not sure what the relevance is.  PS3 also sold slightly more hardware launch aligned, and Wii blasts them both out of the water launch aligned (and comes out ahead combined even for hardware).
