Forums - Microsoft - So has anybody played Deadly Premonition, yet?

I saw a video making fun of it on "UnSkippable" a few weeks ago and I laughed my ass off at how bad it looked.  I thought it was an old Dreamcast game or at best, a bargain basement Wii title.  Well, I was on Youtube, looking at some reviews for Alan Wake (I love that game) and I stumbled accross some reviews for Deadly Premonition.  Turns out, a lot of people like the game.  It even made X-Play's top 10 games of 2010, so far!

The game is only $20 brand new (and after paying my bills today, I should have a little extra left from my pay check) so I'm going to snatch it up today!  How bad can it be?  Anybody play it yet?

You made this thread just to brag about how you're making the big money, didn't you?

As the great philosopher Christopher Wallace once said, "Mo' money.  Mo' problems."

Anyway, after reading some user reviews on Metacritic and some of the reviews from Destruction, 1-UP, and Game Informer, I have such a stiffy for this game that you wouldn't believe it!  Did we hype this game up at all when it came out?  I had no clue of it's existence!!  I MUST HAVE IT!

*edit* looks worse than I thought.  Here's a link: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/unskippable/1713-Deadly-Premonition-Part-1

Look at how bad this thing looks!  Who knew it was awesome?

I seem to remember a lot of people hyping it when it released (Twin Peaks ripoff survival horror $20 brand new 360 exclusive = zomg!). I don't know how you missed it! That's why I'm suspicious about your real motives for this thread.

Anyway, I've not tried it yet myself due to my stupid habit of playing only one system at a time. But it does look phenomenal. I really need to hook my Xbox back up and get all over this.

Not a 360 fanboy, just a PS3 fanboy hater that likes putting them in their place ^.^

it was really nice but then it got to the open world town part and it just seemed like a hassle trying to get around so i havent gone back to playing it yet.

Pretty much this.

The story, dialoge and atmsphere is completely dope.

The gameplay is "flawed" if you're comparing it to other games, but it works better than most of those other games in creating tension.

When the game is doing the gameplay horror shooting sequences...its worth every penny, but then you get to the open town sandbox, and are forced to wait and go to town halls at certain times...etc.

And you lose interest.

I got it on the day that I made this thread.  It was pretty underwhelming but I have seven days off.  I'll give it another chance to win my love.

My fiancee thought it was one of the best games ever.

Its campy, should have been on PS2, and certainly rough around the edges, but the sum of its parts - combat, story, and open world adventures, are pretty great. The story is especially intriguing.

Some of the best $20 I've spent.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.
