Its pretty good. I don't mind her music.

It was considered extremely popular back than, you know...
Bet with Dr.A.Peter.Nintendo that Super Mario Galaxy 2 won't sell 15 million copies up to six months after it's release, the winner will get Avatar control for a week and signature control for a month.
I liked her last album, it had a bit of a rock vibe to it... this is just pop trash though.
Still would though...

Stop, please if you want to hold some shred of credibility, just stop.
Do you even know any songs in those albums? Are you really saying that Master of Puppets would be considered pop back in the days? Metallica being pop?
You seriously have some reality issues if you think that statement is correct.
Here's a reality check for you:
Next time you even bother to come up with a ludicrous comment like that, please for everyone's sake, keep it to yourself.
Like it has been said, no one is going to remember Katy Perry's summer of 2010 song or most of her songs in 10 years from now. On the contrary, every one of those albums will be forever remembered as classics that shaped the panorama of music.
And before you pull the sexism card, like you always do: Heart and Joan Jett (I'll spare you the trouble of google them, they're female rock singers) >>>>>> Katy Perry and pretty much every female singer nowadays.

With the terrible state music is in right now, I see it possible for people to easily remember Katy Perry in 10 years....Look at Nickelback. They've been popular for almost 10 years and still won't go away. |
I hope that you're wrong and that in 10 years the music panorama shifts, but as things are now, you're speaking the truth
That's why I've been out of the "mainstream" music since 2001-2002. It's just sad to see an overall lack of quality in most musical genres. Thankfully some classics still are being made today, but most people don't care about them.
It's pretty sad to see that in Rock In Rio 2010, Miley Cyrus day had more people than Rammstein day

I generally just listen to what I like at the moment. I was ginuinely pleased to hear Muse on a pop station a few months ago. Then the station jumped formats to appeal to "14-16 year old girls" and so they literally stopped playing anything other than a few rap songs, lady gaga, kesha and justin bieber. It pissed me off because all of our decent modern rock stations shut down so I just listen to my ipod nonstop now |
The only radio I play is Last.FM here on my pc. All the portuguese radio stations have shifted to pop (maybe except for one that only plays songs from the 90s, 80s, which is pretty cool), and that gets annoying after a while.
Thankfully the Justin Bieber craze hasn't reached here yet, I've seen how bad it can get

Popular music sucks. At any time period. I always listen to underground music like classical and swing music (think Bioshock and Fallout songs). Back in the 80s and 70s when rock was popular, I was listening to country. When classical, swing, and Big Band tunes were popular in the 40s and early 50s, I was listening to baby bopper music and Justin Beiber. Aren't I a great hipster?

Hit me up sometime (not literally)
Well although this single dates back to October 2009, Kings & Queens by 30 Seconds to Mars has been a favorite of mine. Also Uprising from Muse and The Crow and the Butterfly from Shine Down. But we obviously have different music tastes.

I agree what a sad state music is in today. Im not surprised sales have been decreasing so rapidly with all of this uninspired music. The only good music today are being released by bands that have been around for 15 or more years. I can't believe more people would pay to see Miley Cyrus over Rammstein who puts on one of the most amazing stage shows today and thats watching it on DVD. I live in the US and I am not surprised they haven't played here since 2001, I hope the rumors of them playing a few dates over here in the fall are true. I am also not surprised a bunch of summer tours are getting cancelled by mainstream artists while bands like Iron Maiden and Metallica are adding dates because they are selling out so fast. |
There have been a few bands that have released great albums lately, but they're found of far less mainstream genres. Bands like Epica, Nightwish, Lacuna Coil, After Forever and many others have had a great increase in fans and appeal, not only from metal fans but from other musical genre fans.
Epica's Design Your Universe reached top spots in most European charts and here in Portugal it was in number one for a week, which is nothing shabby for a symphonic metal band
The problem is that is so rare for those bands to get the proper credit and merit by the media that praise everything that pop singers do. Even the classic bands like Rammstein, Iron Maiden, Motorhead and Metallica are struggling in the current panorama.
I do hope the US gets a Rammstein tour. The Rock In Rio concert was a feast of out-of-this-world and over-the-top performances by them

Metallica and Iron Maiden might not have the airplay but they are 2 of the biggest selling live acts. I have never seen them not sell out an entire tour. I saw videos of Rammstein from Rock in Rio and other festivals they have headlined this summer. They only seem to get better as they get older. I know at least a dozen people I have gotten into Rammstein (as well as other metal acts) who would see them if they did come to the States. Living in NY I would assume they would play here, probably at Madison Square Garden. |
I'm also a fan of older metal. Black Sabbath is still one of my favourite all time bands
I enjoyed Linkin Park back in the days of Hybrid Theory, but since then, they've fallen off my radar. Too much repetition and far too less innovation I guess. I'm not a fan of Muse, though I do know a lot of people who enjoy their musics a lot.
Metallica's Rock in Rio 2004 concert was the single best live concert i've ever seen. Everything about it was perfect, especially when they started playing One and Enter Sandman
It's kinda sad that in the US this kind of bands don't have the same coverage that they get in Europe. I think that Metal and every sub-genre of Metal have the biggest capacity for innovation and expansion in every music genre that exists currently. If the US embraced it more than it does, then the genre would see a massive outburst of bands
