I just finished reading books 2 & 3 of the First Law Trilogy by Joe Abercrombie. I <3333333 Sand dan Glokta!! He has the best inner commentary ever! He's like House but he tortures people instead of trying to fix them LOL.

I really like how Abercrombie sort of turns the fantasy character archetypes on their heads and gives some sense of realism in terms of morality and character motives without being as depressingly brutal as ASoIaF (though it IS a grim story). The battles are bloody and are written in such a way that you feel like you're right with the character in the middle of the chaos. Definitely worth a read, IMO.
