Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Pachter: Xbox division on fire, Xbox Live is wildly profitable

If the number of paying subscribers is correct, then the 360 is only making profits right now because Microsoft charges for online play. At least that's what I get out of this.

probably is, since they have no first party games or published games.

exactly it's something that has either been said or just plain obvious, so please save praise, Pachter is still a douche

my signature went on strike, it's demanding 3% raise

profiting.  not big first party games were released this quarter, no big one at least to maintain a division, so its probably profiting due life.

maintaing a network it cheap. compared what they make off subcription

Ah, gotcha!

Although as someone who works part time for a company which services computer servers, I can tell you that maintaining a big network can actually get surprisingly pricey.  So many things can and do go wrong, and fixing them ain't cheap!

Yeah the 360 has been very profitable despite the doomsay of RROD and massive costs of the original XBox. A profitable entry is inevitable for MS in the console world unless the 720 makes them bleed money again.

It's just that simple.

well nintendo profit are from first party games, they don't charge for online.

microsoft doenst publish or make many first party games, they get smaller fee from third party (sony and nintendo does too).

but microsoft it selling their hardware to cheap so they wont make much from hardware. if they are profitting its probably xbox live mainly

i never said they didn't profit from something else , any way, their entertaiment division it living off windows/office sales.

Good because Xbox live can't seem to get better.
