Forums - Sales Discussion - Red Dead Redemption 360 outsells PS3 in UK!

PS3 is doomed for sure now!

Around the Network

God dammit ... I went to 2 shops in London on Friday and in both the PS3 version of the game was outsold, plenty of 360 versions left...

Looking at the bigger 360-userbase in the UK this version sold just a little bit better;

X360 - 4.859.696 (61.12%)
PS3 - 3.091.144 (38.88%)
-----------------------------------
Total - 7.950.840 (100%)

The sales in the rest of Europe will be much closer or in the PS3's advantage.
31.4% (4.859.696) of all 360's sold in Europe (15.486.709) are sold in the UK, so there's 68.6% (10.6 million) left in Europe.
19.6% (3.091.144) of all PS3's sold in Europe (15.790.007) are sold in the UK, so there's 80.4% (12.7 million) left in Europe.
Piracy will also take it's cut.

This thread title makes me happy. How the times have changed when shooting strongly multiplayer game on X360 outselling PS3 counterpart is news.

It's not really news

I could have called this, watching USA Amazon charts, where PS3 typically far outperforms it's USA sales numbers, RDR 360 version was the easy winner. Thus tipping me off that RDR is the type of game that is going to skew heavy 360. Another example is Bad Company 2 (most FPS in fact). You can just tell after a while what games are right up the 360 userbase alley.

The 360 userbase often sleeps, but when awakened, is quite powerful. I think the next major example we're going to see of that is Halo: Reach. That game is just going to sell insane in strong 360 territories.

Though im not surprised if the 360 is out selling the PS3 version, there may be other things to take into account.

Firstly, I didnt pre-order this game for my PS3, as I was on the fence as to whether or not I would pick it up. But in the end I decided I would go for it, and see what its like.

I went shopping on the Friday and decided as I was in HMV I would pick up this game (as they also were giving away a free copy of 3:10 to Yuma with it :P). I asked the clerk, they had sold out.

I didnt think much of it, I rarely (if even ever before) brought games from HMV, and only reason I planned to pick it up from there was because of the free movie (I actually went there to get some new Blu-Rays).

From there I went to Asda, and once before when I was in a similar situation on the Sims 3 Release (everywhere sold out) I managed to get myself a copy from Asda... so they were my fail safe! and they too, had no copies...

I then went to Game, Gamestation, Complete Entertainment Exchange, Blockbuster (Walsall outlet), Tesco, and every place I could think of that sold games, and every single one was sold out of the PS3 version. All of them still had plenty of 360 version left though :(

Having visited all the shops, I gave up and went back home to Brownhills, and decided to try the Blockbuster there before going home. They were also sold out.

So from the days experience, everywhere was sold out of the PS3 version, but not one the 360 version. Im not saying this is the cause for the 360 version outselling it, but it could be contributing factor. But had those shops had more copies of the PS3 versions I could have easily counted a large group of other people who would have purchased it having gone there for it only to find, like me, they had none left.

I actually did have some luck though and got it, as having asked the clerk in the last shop I tried they offered me a copy that someone had pre-ordered but not collect. Which was also the limited edition, War Horse for me :D

The best way to find out if you can trust somebody is to trust them.

Well just in case you didn't know there were shipping problems with the PS3 version on the opening day in the UK and most people just decided top get 360 version because it was the only one available for them.

You talking about this?

'Massive' PS3 Red Dead shortage hits UK

Is a sunken cargo ship to blame?

Makes sense given the userbase split and PS3 undershipments.

If the PS3 version was outsold then there shouldn't have been many 360 copies left :)

PS3 version was under-shipped, at any rate.
