Ubisoft is losing money now that the DS isn't giving them any more free cash. Also because they're spending huge R&D developing those $60 million 8th-gen games that Guillemot is so excited about.

LMAO, yes that's the reason.

You sound sarcastic. You don't think that Ubi's DS unit sales share dropping in half or their 60 million Euro (hey, that's the size of their operating loss!) increase in R&D budget are the big driving factors here?

no, that's not why, the big 60 million dollars games you spaek of sold 9 million copies so far, esaily making up the difference plus more. Now, to get an answer to your question, answer this first , how many games did Ubisoft release on the PS3/360 last quater?

Can someone go tell Gamasutra that Ubisoft lost 43.7m Euros? They didn't fucking profit for the year...completely misleading headline. Its the first thing they say in their press-release that was emailed out a few hours ago.

Check out my piece...Ubisoft revenue on DS dropped by over $200 million in a single year. Pretty scary stuff for a company that only makes like a $1 billion in a good year.

Sorry, I tried to clarify this in an edit. I'm talking about the year, not the quarter. After all, the 60 million Euro operating loss being reported is for the year, not the quarter.

For the year, HD console games accounted for 45% of Ubi's sales up from 39%. DS sales dropped from 29% to 14%. Seems to me that for the year, HD sales are pretty static, while DS sales dropped through the floor.

The source answered the question about the year, the DS sales has cost them tons of sales, but enough about the 60 million dollars game stuff.

Well if Splinter Cell came out last year like it was supposed to...

Why? You're missing half the picture if you only look at revenues and ignore costs. It's a fact that while revenues are contracting, Ubi's R&D budget expanded 25% last year. Guillemot himself has stated that he thinks it will be the average cost of an 8th gen game, and I don't think that they're all going to sell 9 million units.

Yeah, because that's not why they lost money. When that's reason, then we can use that excuse.

So they lost money? LOL Even with Assassin's Creed selling 9 million.

Ubisoft is to blame for the DS debacle; they shattered their brand name with dozens of Imagine "___" titles. Consumers learned not to trust them on the DS, the Wii is almost complete as well, even though it has made up (26%) of their sales.

Surprising as well that Red Steel 2 is moving according to expectations. Notice how their publishing has been at its lowest percentage in years. It just goes to show how good of a job they are doing at that for their portfolio.

You mean this article?

So Assassin's Creed II and Just Dance (almost) saves the day, huh? It seems like Ubisoft are playing a dangerous game right now.
