Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Am I the only one who thought Rock Band had a great week?

Now I would call ME a flop. That game had the hype. The name (Bioware) and it is a good game. For it to not outsell SMG, and barely outsell AC, I'd definetly call it a flop. I still bought it... but still.

True, ME had a bit of hype, but folks were saying totally unreal numbers on it. AC had hype from both directions, as well as COD4. ME had hype, but if you weren't following the story, you wouldn't really know what the story was all about.

It's just like folks going out and buying the 40gb PS3s these days. I was talking to a guy at Arby's and he was like "I can't wait to buy a PS3." He said he had a ton of PS2 games as well. When I told him he couldn't play PS2 games on it, he gasped. And after talking to several folks, they were thinking the same thing.

Back on topic - a lot of folks are scared by sticker shock for Rock Band. I am curious to see how well AC6 Flight Edge did myself ...  and I doubt a lot of folks knew the game can be bought by itself. Harmonix/EA didn't do a good job of letting folks know you can buy the game by itself ...

I am not really into the Guitar Hero type games. I don't think I would ever buy one for myself. However they can be fun to play at someones house if you are hanging out having a good time. I played Rockband with three other people, four of us total. One was using a Guitar Hero guitar, so we had two guitars, one on the drums and one on the mic. It was a lot of fun. Its a multiplayer game, not meant to be played alone. I really think this game will catch on for those casual type gamers who want something to do hanging out with friends. Have a few drinks and rock out to some music. With someone on the mic the game is pretty fun.

The price tag hurts it, but once the word of mouth and people actually getting their hands on it somewhere I think it will catch on. I don't think it will ever be huge, but it will do alright. Its a little different than Guitar Hero, but in my opinion its better - if you play multiplayer.

Is Rockband still unavailable in many areas? The online stores seem to be out of them, as is the local stores. Are they available in your area?

BTW: This is my first post. I must say something is odd about this forum. When trying to post its extremely slow. I have tried to post before just to have it freeze up. I post on many forums everyday, but this one seems to have some issues.

Even with a $170 price tag...120k copies sold. I consider that a success.

The barrier of entry is HUGE and Guitar Hero 1) Costs less and 2) is a recognized brand name. There have been many examples of games with superior gameplay but get squashed by the big name games.

Also - YES, you need to do local multiplayer to really enjoy Rock Band.

There is no such thing as a console war. This is the first step to game design.

I think it's not fair to compare it's sales to original Guitar Hero. GH was not only a new IP, it was a whole new idea. Rock band isn't that innovative. It takes a lot of from GH and it has some hype also. I think that most people will agre that RB is better than GH but when it's priced at almost 200$ it won't sell as good.
And Assasin's Creed ia also a new IP and it sold 700-800k on its first week.

I consider it a strong week. The big question is if it can get strong Guitar Hero-like legs.

At $170 for a game, that's a HUGE investment. Even $100 for Guitar Hero is huge as well. Whenever you have a game of that high of a price, sales tend to be spread out alot, even with alot of hype.

So 80k on X360, and 110k total is really, really good to me. Can it hit 500-600k before the end of Christmas? That's the question and challenge.

As for ME, it's only it's first week, and it has 330k. That's not bad for a new IP thats going to be a trilogy, IMO. What matters is if ME drops like a rock, or has Gears of War legs for Christmas.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

I don't know about Rock Band but Guitar Hero III is very fun by yourself.  If you play a few songs and then look towards the bottom of the TV and the TV stand for a few minutes everything will warped back and forth and it will be like your are on drugs.  Best game ever :)

OOkay first of all i bought this game to play with all my friends. on the day i boughted we played for about an hour when all of the sudden 1 of my friends said can we play something else. i asked why but the answer was simple enough he said it sucks and i agreed. it was not one nor two people who were playing but 4 of my friends came over we were all playing at the same time and we all try each instrument. the guitar plainly sucks and drums are hard and complicated. singing lets not even talk about it. so yes this is not a game to play alone but i didnt i played with 4 of my friends and they all agreed it sucked. I want to cry. this game makes me cry because its so expensive and none of my friends or me liked it. WORST GAME EVER!!!!!!

Actually, it is somewhat innovative. Never before have soooo many different games been combined in one package. Seriously, drumming, vocals and guitar? You can actually learn drumming from playing this game, and the vocals are soooo sweet. The guitar is the only thing that's the same - and I like the guitar with RB before than GH. The RB guitar has 2 sets of keys - one for multiplayer and one set for solo.

I have GHIII and GHII - I enjoy them, but nongamers, like my wife, ask to play RB ... and the Wii. GHIII? Not so much ...
