do those calculations account for shipping, research and developement, marketing and do they take retailer cuts into consideration ? probably not
even with quadruple the exclamation marks this headline won't become a "fact" |
R&D and marketing isn't, for sure, since the more consoles you make the lower that value becomes for each individual console, even ones sold 3 years ago. You can't have a moving figure like that for units already sold.
And retailer's cut isn't as big as you think it is, I remember reading somewhere retailers make $5-10ish for each console sold. No clue about shipping or packaging.

Hum? You can simply calculate the share of marketing/R&D for the quarter, averaging it over the whole console gen makes little sense - of course that means in some quarters it's higher and in some lower depending on how many units are sold.
Especially the R&D share, for R&D costs are pretty constant over all quarters (you don't just hire/fire these guys) , while marketing has seasonal budget spikes (holidays/ big game releases / price cut / sports events/..) which coincide with console sale spikes.
"retailers make $5-10ish", yes some .. those with the lowest prices, which of course are way under the RRP, so plz don't just deduct $5-10 from the RRP and depending on the country the share is/has to be bigger
