Forums - Sales Discussion - Why buy first day?

If it has a pre-order bonus I'll get it. I get games from Amazon with the $10 credits but I never really play them first day....or week.

I am wracking my brain trying to remember the last time I purchased a game on day 1. Maybe the original Never Winter Nights.

depends on the game, some people have caught on with some wii games that will drop right after release. You can kinda tell if it will drop early or not. Games like madworld will drop, but Nintendo's games almost never drop in price even years after release. I don't see MH3 dropping much either, RE:DC is holding pretty strong too.
For example SMG2 i don't see any reason to wait, i doubt it's gonna drop anytime soon and some places are even giving $20 credit if you preorder it.

For those that were following red steel 2 on here we could kinda tell this was gonna happen.

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X

Because you'll never get a Red Steel 3.

:-p

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

generally i won't. every so often though, there will be a game that i just can't wait. gears of war 3 and marvel vs. capcom 3 are two fine example of first day buys for me. most anything can wait

Not all games are like Red Steel 2. Just look at Nintendo's titles. Twilight Princess still MSRPs for $49.99 in the US.

Granted, Nintendo's titles are on an extreme end of a rather wide spectrum, but Red Steel 2 is on the opposite extreme, given its weak sales. Most games don't drop in price for at least 4-6 months after release (in the US), and some publishers (Nintendo, Sony, Activision) keep their games full price for a year or more.

I'm still kicking myself over Yoshi's Island DS.  I wanted it at a time when I couldn't afford it, so I figured I'd wait for a price drop.  It ended up being discontinued without any change in price by Nintendo, and now it costs 2x as much as it did before!

Oh man I feel sorry for you Yoshi DS is a great game. Just keep checking used shops it is bound to be there one day.

OT Why not buy first day? I buy games I want as soon as I can. If i am iffy on it, I will wait though.

I rarely buy games first day....
But I think I may get Alan Wake first day.

Because throwing around more money than I have to makes me look and feel important.

I'm usually forced to wait, since I buy no more than a few games a year that are not used. This year Ive bought only ME2 and Pokemon silver at full retail price.
