Would Sony be making a mistake by releasing LBP2 on PS3?

I say this because I see the LBP franchise in the same category as Mario Kart and Smash Bros, what I mean is that these franchises are meant to have one iteration for each generation of consoles. And LBP can easily be enhanced through DLC.

I don't see why it would e a mistake

The first game could have been huge and although it did 3 million which is amazing for a new IP, it had far more potential

Now they have the momentum, the marketing and when it releases the PS3 will probably have a much larger user base.

If they want this game to carry on to PS4 and be one of their main franchises when they launch the PS4, they have to make a LBP2 and it needs to be more successful

LBP is going to hit 4 M, and by then it will be bundled, if there is a LBP2, they wont announce it this year, and just bundle LBP and get the user share feature to sell consoles and develop the franchise.

I think the op has an interesting point but LBP is such a promising franchise. Think about a trailer for LBP2... it starts side scrolling levels with new additions just like the last, but then the whole plane filps on itself and the entire experience becomes 3d.
At the same time the same LBP theme goes from whistleing to an entire orchestra score.
you see other online players buzzing through the air in user created airplanes. A community of houses all created by users exists in one town, the camera pans out to reveal lots of towns, then pans out again to reveal the whole world.
Little Big World come up on the screen as people cheer!

This is the future of this franchise, and this is why Sony bought media molecue.

It doesn't seem necessary to have a sequel of a user-generated game during the same generation. They will have to add way more features to make this game significantly different from the 1st. I'll put this under the "We'll see" category for now.

Most anticipated games of 2011:

Uncharted 3,Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, Rocksmith

Modern Warfare 3, Super Mario 3D

Well, to be honest, it could be... If it's going to split the community apart, then we'll have a problem. The critics and the audience loved it for being so original, and if Media Molecule is simply going to give us a new campaign and not enough new features, then I don't see it being a success like LBP was.
I truely hope this won't happen, I loved the first one but I can't imagine what they can offer new that can make me spend 70€ on it.

Yes, it would be a mistake... They are going to divide the community. I remember MM saying LBP was a platform that was meant to be updated and supported, which is why they didn't have plans for LBP. I mean, they added water to LBP a while ago. Move support is coming via update, I don't see why LBP2 is needed this gen. Like I said before, and I will say again, LBP2 should be on the PS4 as a launch title. Sony should really help MM develop a new IP instead of LBP2.

To me LBP is an endless game, user content, dlc, etc..

Don't know how part 2 is going to change the game enough for people to say 'I need to get LBP2'.

You can already make Anything and Everything in LBP, part 2 is going to be a hard seling point imo..

Unless the only way to play in 3D, or with move, is to have LBP2, then I can see people picking it up..

I have no idea, I'm not an expert; I just hope they don't screw this series up. It has the potential to be the next Crash Bandicoot for Sony.

As it seems clear to me especially with the introduction of water, the initial engine isn't capable of handling all of their ideas. While playing online visually complicated levels things can be strange. Hell singleplayer in some stages can be lagged to hell. If they can improve that experience I'm all for it.

For all the people worried about splitting the creative community I don't understand why they simply couldn't make your LBP2 work with all the stages. I mean isn't level data mostly positional and item data?

LBP is an amazing game. It is not a perfect game. Issues can be addressed and our experience can be improved. I would love to download levels like in the PSP version just because it sucks to not be able to play all the levels I want when something is wrong with my internet connection.
