Alright so the five year life cycle of DS and PSP has come and is going. With both platforms having multiple models and their marketshare's beginning to shrink its time for the next generation of handhelds. Nintendo started this move by announcing the first truly 3D handheld or 3D game console to date.

I remember late last year leaks began pouring out that the next PSP would rival the 360 graphics wise and the next Nintendo handheld would sport GameCube/Wii graphics. Then tons of rumours started and leaks continued hinting that the two handhelds are nearing their finishing moments and ready to be unvieled.

Now that 3DS has been announced will Sony push the next PSP by revealing it at E3? Or will Sony build a camera into it and reveal a 3D rip off of 3DS releasing the next PSP next E3.

Either way the next PSP is coming do you think it will release within the next year like Nintendo's 3DS?

psp2 will be release this year with something very innovative in it like 3d or a touch screen

OT: I guess... mainly because Nintendo started the ball rolling first. I doubt SONY would want Nintendo to gain too much ground before their next handheld launched. That's assuming they're more concerned about Nintendo as apposed to iPhone/Touch

Sony will not release a console this year because of move and PS3D.

So, christmas 2011 is my guess.

Reveal at E3 or TGS 2010

Japanese launch by March 2011

Worldwide launch by the end of 2011

Hmm. We'll see. I'm thinking Sony will want so see what Nintendo does, first.

The 3D shouldn't play much of a factor since most people have not purchased 3D TV's! Plus Sony will need a handheld to answer Nintendo if they wait a year Nintendo will already have 20-30 million units shipped and the fight for market share will be over!

I dunno, the only way I could see Sony market a new handheld now would be if it was very difficult to pirate. I think the Go might be their last effort.

I answered "Yes!", but in retrospect, I might have to put "No PSP2!". Sony relies on the Razors-and-blade model of selling systems under cost and hoping to make it up in software sales, but the PSP has notoriously bad software sales. If the PSP in total didn't make a profit, there's no reason for Sony to throw good money after bad. Sony would be better served spending that money developing more high quality games for the Move, if that's the way they want to go.

no dude, no need for that, the I am betting that the psp would be more powerful than the 3ds
why bring out a handheld ? it will be overpriced if the current psp is at a 169 price tag
with that being said, sony would likely cut the price of the psp and keep it on the market for the next 2 years without mentioning a successor.
