AH I forgot about the vibrative screen rumor! Man, the 3DS has SO MUCH to it. Dual screens, with it POSSIBLE that both will be touchscreens. POSSIBLE that there are as many as three cameras on it (one on the outside, *maybe* two on the inside vaguely similar to Natal). 3D screens. Force feedback. Motion sensing. MASSIVE graphical overhaul.

SO excited.

Well with all that (and the two inner camera will need to be running all the time to produce the 3D effect right), how will the battery hold up?

HG/SS are this fiscal year, Gen 5 and 3DS are next fiscal year (and only in Japan so far at that).

Dunno, but the rumours going around (see what pbroy posted) say the battery life IS improved. So we'll see.

Although, I doubt they'll need multiple cameras on the inside to do headtracking, not to mention that's kinda NOT "original", so I doubt Ninty would do it. It's just an idea.

They've already announced that the next generation will be releasing within a year, and they've already begun announcing 5th gen Pokemon. No, it's happening. They're at least releasing during the launch window (first three months or so). Guaranteed.

Whatever it is, Sony will copy this, as usual. :)

I still don't see the PKMN thing happening. I'll believe it when I see it. When was the last time Nintendo released a PKMN game as a launch title for a new system, anyway? If anything, I'd wager a NSMB sequel will launch with the system. That'd be the 3rd NSMB game, so they can aptly name it New Super Mario Bros. 3DS.

Weren't Fire Red and Leaf Green in 2004, though? I think they were...

Ah, true, that.

But those were GBA games, and GBA had been out for years in 2004. Yes, DS released in the same year, but by this logic it would only mean the next PKMN games would release on DS, not its successor.

My opinion is that 3D display will be a part of Nintendo's next handheld, but not the main focus or there will be another feature that sets it apart from the competition. Like the DS had two screens, but what made it special was that the bottom one was a touchscreen. I believe that Nintendo will use the 3D display to make it's competitors believe that this will be next step, while they will also have something else to stay ahead.

Otherwise I have no idea why they announced this through a message sent via their investor's information page which anyone with an Internet connection can view, instead of announcing it at E3.

Nintendo is probably hiding something about the system, since they know that their competitors will try to copy them
