Forums - General Discussion - Is it just me or is this site going down hill

75% of the people on this site are sony fanboys. it annoys the hell out of me reading their posts.

Around the Network

the price of success? This site saw a huge surge in views and members a while ago, that lead to alot of newer members and at the same time alot of older members left.

I find it that the older members are the ones contributing most to fanboy stuff.

I blame everyone but me!

Also that chart is awesome :D

I agree i remember the forum was pretty good, but now its like IGN, with fanboys and people trying to be funny and get attention. As for the site itself it was purely a numbers site now they post other news and such, half the time the news is either useless or rumours. The reviews here are horrendous. The sales numbers arnt that accurate most of its just guessing.

Any adjustments are done without explanation. And they have a pointless store to get some extra cash.

That's not really all that surprising.  What I see happening with the moderation here is something I've seen time and time again on forums.  Those that are protected are those that post what is most open to attack.  They are usually also the group that is quickest click that report post button because they are offended at the response they receive.  Now, the site is overmoderated.  Temporary bans are handed out frequently and those that would want to take the zealous fans to task for outragous statements deside to go somewhere else where the ban hammer isn't swung so liberally.  The most successful and interesting boards I've ever posted on use bans VERY infrequently and those bans that do happen, are permanent.  I am and have been a moderator on a few boards and have always found that most problems could be solved without such heavy handed tactics.  Not only that, conversation on those boards was allowed to get much more indepth and heated, but without explostion because members learned their posting boundaries, including the unpaid volunteer company advocates (or they blew up and were chased off).

The fact is, the more interesting posters that are chased off by ban happy overmoderatores, the less interesting people will stay because they hit "Hot Topics" and see mostly "Which FF villian do you like most?" and "What are you thinking right now?" and other such drivel.  Many immature mods think that the more active they are in moderation, the better they are at it.  In fact, the opposite is true.  The best mods take action only when absolutly needed, and when they do so it should follow a set and simple process.  Temp bans represent forum micromanagement of members.  If you are going to ban someone, make it permanent.  However, 99% of all forum altercations can be settled without that.  Most people can be reasoned with and not everone should be protected from being assaulted for their zealous opinion.

I give this thread a 9.8

Thank god for the disable signatures option.

I do find it irritating that there are so many "joke" threads made my older members, that actually do turn into legitimate console war arguments, and saying things like "I thought that 2009 for the Wii was crap in comparison to 2008" would get you banned for "trolling".

The mods also are very incosistent and don't understand the importance of precedents in any law/rule based system. Allowing someone to post shemale porn and get away with it, or allowing senior members get away with things pretty much creates an anarchy, as there are no rules anymore if it's all arbitrary.

My personal opinion:

1) PS3 fans- Obnoxious teenagers and Japanophiles

2) 360 fans- Mature and older people that complain about the PS3 fans and bias, but then completely lose credibility by making the very few 360 threads that come up fanboyish.

3) Wii fans- Weird and scary if you piss them off, but they're cool.

Meh, I'll probably get banned for this post for "trolling" the PS3, 360, and Wii fans *shrug*

That's what I'm saying... I just think people are just getting more whiny lately because everything is more "even".

I mean think about it.

When is their much arguement in when people talk about the AL East in American baseball?  No, because you know it's Yankees, Redsox... that's it.

Now the AL west... their fans go at each other constantly because it's anybodies game!

Have people forgotten about gballzack, Hus, crazzyman, etc.? There have always been tons of deranged fanboys. Leo-J was also much worse back in the day. Didn't he claim GTA IV was going to basically cause the Wii to stop selling or something?

Off Topic has got better with more people contributing to good debate.

On Topic has got a lot worse, especially in the last 6 months.
