^I updated my post...any videos of Natal working in the dark? any videos of Natal working with people moving behind the Natal player(s) ? Any videos of Natal working in a tight space with poor lighting? Any videos of Natal games being anything else than what the Eyetoy games are?

Nah, didn't think so.

Wow, you're a fiery one.

How can it be an eyetoy clone if the Eyetoy was never worth cloning? Thats like saying the Ipod was a clone of X MP3 player that never did anything in the market.

So your logic is if something wasn't a massive must buy item its not classed as copying the idea?

I can't really see how complaints its an Eyetoy clone are even justified as the Sony Eyetoy wasn't a big enough success to be considered inspiration. I doubt that anyone is going to say that due to the Eyetoys 'massive' success Microsoft rushed their engineers to complete a copy. In reality the Natal interface is closer to a Wiimote clone than it could ever be an Eyetoy clone.

I can understand anyone having hurt feelings or whatever, but its pretty stupid to draw a link between the Eyetoy and the Natal interface in the same fashion that you wouldn't draw a connection between Microsofts failed tablet PC format and the iPad. Im not going to rush around saying the iPad is a tablet PC clone when the tablet PC never did anything and barely sold nor did it meet the requirements of the market.

I know this thread is about Jack Tretton, but why does everyone defend Natal like it ISN'T simply an EyeToy with possibly more accurate motion detection to allow maybe individual fingers to be detected, not just big swinging arms?

excellent thread lol.

well, it's the truth isn't it? what can Natal do that the PS2 Eyetoy couldn't do 6 years ago?

Isn't this the kind of thing Natal has shown it can do?

Eyetoy stuff...

So Natal is an HD Eyetoy....and PS3 Move is an HD Wii. That's what I figure anyway.

i hate when people link "Eyetoy" videos they ALWAYS don't link the best Eyetoy game!

ANTI-GRAV! , its my favorite

also PS3 has a good game called Trials of Topoq =]

While discussing PlayStation Move and the benefits of actually having a controller in your hand on tonight’s episode of GameTrailersTV with Geoff Keighley, Jack Tretton, President and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment of America, took a stab at Microsoft’s “Natal” motion camera.

The Sony CEO believes PlayStation Move is true “next generation motion gaming”. But what does he think of Natal?

“I think it is a big idea, if you really want to get involved with playing with a camera, I suggest you go out and buy a $99 PlayStation 2 and play some of the great technology that we invented 8 years ago.”

Tretton isn’t the only person representing Sony that has taken digs at Natal as of late. Kevin Butler joined in on the fun in his latest commercial for PlayStation Move.

Prove it!

we have not seen the full extend of NATAL yet people are saying its already a failure. why dont you all just wait till e3 and see what happens.end of story.

Wait...So...

PS Move has a similar design to Wiimote and essentially does the same thing as Wiimote with added features, it's a copy because the Wii was a huge success?

But...

Natal does essentially the same thing as the EyeToy with added features.  Though it's not a copy at all, due to the fact that the EyeToy wasn't a huge success?

How the hell does that make any sense at all.  Just because Wii was a success and EyeToy wasn't doesn't nullify Natal being any less of a copy to the EyeToy as PS Move is a copy to the Wiimote.  Interface has NOTHING to do with how they work, it's all about the hardware.

Talk about biased.

  • 2010 MUST Haves: WKC, Heavy Rain, GoWIII, Fable III, Mass Effect 2, Bayonetta, Darksiders, FFXIII, Alan Wake, No More Heroes 2, Fragile Dreams: FRotM, Trinity: SoZ, BFBC2.
  • Older Need To Buys: Super Mario Bros. Wii, Mario Kart Wii, Deadspace, Demon's Souls, Uncharted 2.

There is definitely more to list that I want, but that's my main focus there.

Microsoft will be having the last laugh at the end of the year.
