What the hell kind of parents leave a loaded gun where a 3 year old can get to it? Un-fucking-believeable!!!!!!! Both parents should be serving life for this.

Life for what sounds like an accident?  You don't even serve live if you kill a couple people, usually.  How do you suggest this is paid for?  Do you volunteer to give TN $80,000 per year until these two people die?

Like I said you only have black bears which almost never approach humans, moose which never attack unless purposfuly agitated and you have no highly posienous snakes what so ever

Also umm I'm not sure what the cops in your town are like but yes the cop does have a duty to protect you. Every country in Europe has pretty much banned guns for civilians. According to you these places should be overrun by criminals, rapist and murderers pointing guns in peoples faces and doing whatever they want. So why are European countries far safer than America then?

Cops have no duty to protect people.  Cops are around to protect government workers, government property, solve crimes and deter crimes, at least where I live.  However, cops also don't have a duty to protect government workers.  It is your duty to protect yourself if you want protection.

Oh man. They should lock that guy up for life. Why the HELL would you leave a loaded gun on a table, with a 3 year old in the house, and then go to sleep?! Why would they even have a gun in the house to begin with? What's wrong with these people? O_o

I'm glad I live in NYC. If I call 911, the cops will come AND they will protect me if needed. It must suck to live in New Hampshire.

I've read some silly things in this thread.

Not for me.  I like living in the freest state in the US.  I like the low taxes and the fact that even a 16 year old can just strap on a gun and walk in a police station or a bar without breaking the law.  In fact, I've never been helped by a cop in anyway in my life.  However, I'm glad they are there.  Because if a crime happens, I have the option of reporting it to them.

As they say, when seconds count, cops are only minutes away.

Or maybe the question should be, why doesn't everyone have a gun in the house?  I'm certainly proud to have a gun in my house.  Maybe people that don't have guns in their house should let it be known.  Have you thought about putting a big sign in your yard that says the people in this house are unarmed, please don't rob/rape/kill us?  An interesting idea.

I feel free as a bird in NYC. I don't need a gun on me to feel free. And the fact that even a 16-year-old can strap a gun on and walk around...would not be a comforting thought for me.

What good would it do if everyone had a gun? Who would be safest then? The ones who are better shots? I don't get that mentality. Oh well. Night night!

NH is already the safest state in the nation.  In fact, there isn't a city or town in NH (and there are hundreds) that is as dangerous as NYC.  However, if there were even more guns in NH, there would likely be even less crime.

BTW, NYC may be the least free place in the US.  Here is a study that compared how free the states are.

http://mercatus.org/publication/freedom-50-states-index-personal-and-economic-freedom

"We find that the freest states in the country are New Hampshire, Colorado, and South Dakota, which together achieve a virtual tie for first place. All three states feature low taxes and government spending and middling levels of regulation and paternalism. New York is the least free by a considerable margin, followed by New Jersey, Rhode Island, California, and Maryland."
