Forums - Sony Discussion - 360 + PS3 Tied for # of AAA games

Actually the current numbers are somewhat different than your OP implies, and can be found for all three consoles in my signature.

I updated it a week or so back, so unless something drastic has changed...

The Xbox 360 also has substantially more in the AA bracket.

I did.

Noticing the glaring issues others did, I simply went to the more well known and reputable aggregate review source.

How so?  The console makers and several developers feel Metacritic is reputable enough to use.

interestingly enough the PS3 version of GTA IV scored higher than the 360, but the 360 version got all of the DLC, whats up with that?

2010 Hardware Sales Predictions

Wii: 20m- Sales will drop, but not by much.

PS3: 13.5m- It sold 12m in 2009, its only common sense it will sell more this year.

Xbox 360: 11m- It sold 11m in 2008 and 2009, I think it will sell the same.

My Fanboy Speech...

Why do you have to make excuses to defend a product that you purchased, but that's the only connection you have to it, you don't make it, you don't lose or gain money on it. I don't see where all of the defensiveness comes in, there is no reason for you or anybody else to feel obligated to defend it. Now I would understand if one of you were a developer for the product and you slaved over said product only to hear somebody call it stupid or a piece of junk. But none of you developed it, none of you are mature enough to realize that. Choosing a product all comes down to preference, you chose said product because it is best for you. Simple as that!

How so?  The console makers and several developers feel Metacritic is reputable enough to use.

1 - they choose which reviews they pick. they don't have a set list of sources. they might choose to use a review from a site for one game and completely ignore that site for another.

2 - they weigh each website based on how much they themselves think that web site is worth. In other words, Gamespot could give a game 5/10 and be alloted 10% of a games final score, while another site which gave that game a 10/10 will only count towards 1% of the metascore.

3 - The number of reviews they use for games can vary LARGLEY: Mass Effect 2 sits at 96 after 95 reviews. That's a true mothafuckin AAA game for you. Gemotery Wars, on the other hand, sits at 90 afer 52 reviews. Forza Motorsport 2? 90 after 66 reviews. If you know how metascores work, which I know you do, you know that if Geometry Wars and Forza had 95 reviews they would both be "AA" games.

I've had this argument on these forums several times before. There's more problems with metascores, but those are the reasons that pop right into my head at the moment.

Edit - Portal: Still Alive is "AAA" with only 21 reviews. Demons Souls: 89 with 53 reviews. See where I'm going with this?

You realize that many of the smaller websites that review massive games like Mass Effect 2 (get it?) don't review less high profile games like FM2 and Geometry Wars right?

And you realize that the weighting is done to an EXTREMELY limited extent, generally just to normalize results soon after a review site has hit the Metacritic listings?

I assume by "know how Metascores work" you mean that I accept the notion that as more reviews are added the scores inevitably come down? If that is what you mean, then you have already disproven your own point. Mass Effect 2 has been on 96 since it had half that number of reviews. In fact, past a critical mass of reviews (normally around forty), I don't think it is fair to expect a general drop off with any increase of review numbers in anything like general terms.

Prof am I to take this as an example of you generally being in line with using Metacritic as a metric of quality?

Perhaps, or he's just using it whenever it's convenient. Both occur regularly around here and are pretty silly if you ask me.

themanwithnoname's law: As an America's sales or NPD thread grows longer, the probabilty of the comment "America = World" [sarcasticly] being made approaches 1.

Hehe, i dislike most games on each list.
