Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Metroid Prime Trilogy broke my wii?

Anyone else have the dirty or no disc stuff come up for metroid prime 3?

I played it till i was fighting the giant plant in metroid prime 1.  Then it just stopped being read.  I cleaned the disc like a madman, even though it had no scratches.  SO I give up and check google out and nintendo's own site says to send in the wii for repairs . . .

Now Trilogy is the only wii game that won't work, seems crazy to send it in for just this, does anyone have an alternate solution here?

Last year's game of the year turned out to be Silent Hill : Shattered Memories (online GOTY was COD 6).  This year's GOTY leader to me is Heavy Rain.

The disc reading lense is probably a bit dusty, and it only comes up on dual-layer games. You can buy a cleaning kit to put into the Wii for like five bucks. It's just a disc made out of a certain material that cleans the lens, I think.

I'd advise getting a cleaning kit as well.

Pixel Art can be fun.

Yeah, I saw one of those lens-cleaners for sale at Future Shop, so try one of those.

As far as I know, the only other dual-layer game for Wii is SSBB.

You can buy a cleaning kit.. but I had the same problem and had to get the drive replaced. It cost $89 :( but if your Wii is still under warranty, Nintendo will do it for free.

The game is Duel Layered. So this is natural. This happened to Brawl and Mario Kart Wii

Switch is 9th generation. Everyone else is playing on last gen systems! UPDATE: This is no longer true

See if another dual-layed game like Brawl works.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

yikes 89 eh?

i may try the 5 dollar cleaning kit, im a bit scared to as nintendo said they have 'specialised tools to complete this task' . . .

are there even tools? or is it a screwdriver and a rag?

Nintendo actually manufacture and sell the disc cleaning kit, so I wouldn't worry that it might damage your Wii in any way.

And if somebody's going to take a screwdriver and a rag to my Wii, I'd rather that person be a trained Nintendo specialist than the greaseball at my local game store.
