The way I see it, there are fanboys from each camp causing no end of troubles and I'd not go so far as to say that fans of one system are less intelligent than others. The problem, I think, is not with the fans of each system, it is rather the hate between them and the childish bickering that ensues now and then over trivial matters. I'd also refrain from describing PS3 fans as borderline psychotic over other console fans, it seems like a very broad generalization of a big and varied bunch of users.
Strictly speaking, most console buyers are grown up males and they would represent the majority of a console's fanbase in most cases.
I just don't see how you think to achieve betterment by diving right in and offending a large number of people and claim special rights and/or insight simply on the basis of liking a competing system (it makes you seem more similar to those you accuse which is hardly something you desire), it seems to be just another step in a perpetual cycle if you ask me.
I do think everyone will give you the benefit of doubt though (I know I will, I welcome new users, especially the more grown up kind that won't litter the frontpage with dozens of meaningless threads constantly), I also felt like I knew everyone after I had lurked for a while but it takes a little effort to get into the tone of the forums.
Feel free to tell someone if they cross a line in any kind of way, a high post count doesn't mean a user is smarter or has more grounds for judging others.
