I don't much care what the console looks like, so long as it's not totally ridiculous. I'd like to fit nicely on my shelf, and not stick out like a site thumb. It can be a little bit larger the other systems, a little bit smaller, a slightly different shape, etc. So, I'd be fine if it looked exactly like the dev kit.
With all that said, the look of the device is really a major marketing decision. Marketing works psychologically. So, I may not even be aware that I'm less likely to purchase a strange or ugly looking console. I feel like I don't care, but is that really true?
