Venom was shoehorned into Spider-Man 3 because Avi Arad meddled to get him put in. As a result, SM3 was an overbloated mess with too many characters/plotlines. Then again, he's had quite the track record of butchering films. He also graced us with X-Men: the Last Stand, X-Men: Origins Wolverine, both Hulks, both Fantastic Four movies (he thankfully had no involvement in the godawful 2015 reboot, I can only imagine how much worse it would've been with him involved), both Ghost Riders, Elektra, the terrible theatrical cut of DareDevil (like I said, the R-rated DC on home video is much better), the terrible Amazing Spider-Man films, the list goes on. Oh and I meant 4th continuity. It would technically only be the third time rebooting him, TASM series being the first. |
While I agree Venom was shoehorned in and rushed, his character was also butchered by the Raimi Bros writing team. It also wouldn't have helped their mishandling of Sandman.
You do realize that Avi Arad was the producer on both MCU Spider-Man flicks, right? He also helped get the MCU rolling with Iron Man. Outside of the MCU, he produced the Blade Trilogy and first two Raimi Spider-Man films. Not saying he hasn't been involved with a bunch of stinkers, but he has been involved in some good ones, too.
