Sounds fake because if he hacked your email then why the fuck didn't he change the password. If you can still log on to your email then just change your damn password. You said you saw you are sender and receiver so that means you have access to the account.
Also, it is good to remind everyone to use a different password for your email accounts. Most of these "hackers" are lowbies that get username and password with emails lists linked to whatever site that was hacked. They then plug that info into other sites hoping you used same password.
