eh, I'm not convinced. New starters look bad. Why does the fire starter have a plaster on its face? And why is there another monkey? I suppose at least it isn't a fire monkey this time, but monkey starters are still seriously overdone!

And the new region looks so incredibly linear. The early regions were really square and had kind of a boring layout, but at least it was impossible to see the route you'd take round the region from the beginning with lots of different routes between cities. Would have been nice if they'd actually taken advantage of new hardware and made a big map with lots of cities and no set route through it. IIRC in gen 1 there were a few gyms that you could do in a different order if you wanted, would be awesome if they had all 8 like that with future routes/gyms difficulty scaling based on how many badges you had or something. It also looks kind of... small? Compare that to something like GTA or Skyrim and it really does look poxy. With the amount it sells each release there's no reason at all they couldn't have a big detailed map like GTA other than laziness. Of course laziness is kind of gamefreak's speciality

Ah well, hopefully the anime/movies are good. I haven't been too interested in the games since gen 4 anyway, they've just stagnated for far too long and as much as people bigged this up as a revolutionary Pokemon title it really doesn't look anything like that. Just looks like more of the same. I'm happy about that in terms of mechanics (random battles FTW!) but in terms of map design and starter choice I really would have liked something much bigger, better and more interesting than they've ever done before.

Just gonna point out, there has only been 1 monkey starter, the elemental monkeys aren't starter pokemon.
