In Belgium people need to go vote or get fined heavily and that results in a lot of people just voting on whatever propaganda the media trows at them, i am sure that also happens over there but maybe you guys have a lesser percentage of those kind of voters.
Proper neutral politicial education would be handy but such a thing could be easily corrupted sadly.
