But I simultaneously don't believe the people complaining about SJWs and boycotting Star Wars make up the vast majority of anything either, a claim that you HAVE made. Most audience members would be just as confused by your complaints about the SJWs in Star Wars as they were about Darth Maul suddenly showing up in Solo.
Where did you pull that $1.8 billion figure from? Anyway, yes, Solo is doing poorly. However, there's nothing to really base that it is more than a fraction of the reason for the performance. And the rolling out of the stars means nothing since it was a film even the biggest fans had doubts about from the moment it was announced. That early skepticism likely had a lot more to do with the current difficulties. Rogue One, on the other hand, had fairly positive buzz from the beginning. |
1. SW is a WW brand. The SJW/SW controversy is not just restricted to the US. It is felt throughout the world, where, just so you know, they do have the internet, now. Of course, I do accept that there are those who don't feel like that. I mean, it's not like the film made $0, right?
2. Actually, I would say that the SW controversy is larger, namely due to how those in charge reacted. Like I said, the NFL is a huge part of some people's lives. It would be very hard to just give up on it over the kneeling thing. Of course, if the NFL's official stance for those who opposed the kneeling was that they were racist, incel bigots who only have a problem with it because the players are black, and they don't care about your money, you can guaran-damn-tee that the drop off would have been larger than just 10%. The NFL also realizes that if they allow it to continue, it will start making that 10% grow this coming season. Disney doesn't seem to be learning anything, yet, even after a much lower turnout for TLJ than they expected and an actual flop. I think it will take Ep 9 doing even less than TLJ before we see any action.
3. I never claimed that those who 100% agree with my beliefs make up the vast majority. I have just stated the fact that those that agree that pushing political agendas is screwing up SW makes up a far larger part of the group than many on here, and at Disney/Lucasfilm, want to accept. When you have people on the Left, who would probably disagree with 70%-80% of what us on the Right believe, yet we can all come together to say that SJWs are ruining SW, you have a very large group.

I doubt waiting would have helped. It probably would have just led to more backlash as the pansexual Lando and SJW bot got pushed even harder by those in charge. With more added name calling for those who disagreed.
The schedule had little to do with it, either. POTC:ATW did much better and it had just as much competition as Solo. It was Shrek 2's 2nd week, where it performed better than DP2's 2nd week. And Spider-Man 3's 4th week, where it performed just under IW's 4th week. It also had a better hold the following week, and it had the added competition of the newly released Knocked Up, where Solo has nothing big releasing this week. Coincidentally, next week Solo has to go up against the same competition that AWE did. An Ocean's 11 sequel. AWE was able to pull off $21.14M that weekend. Something tells me Solo is going to be more like $15M. Maybe lower.
