People just don't seem to go see them.

It seems like we are no longer getting good movies with crazy ideas like terminator. Its easier to copy paste one of the already existent million pieces of comics as creating something new.

I went to see Blade Runner 2049 opening weekend and there were maybe 8 other people in there to see the best big budget movie I've seen all year.

Every super hero movie I see opening week has at least 30+ other people in the showing I watch.

Studios respond to market trends so when a slower, thoughtful, beautiful science fiction film with huge actors, massive budget and effects, and skilled director gets rave reviews and will be lucky to break even they won't make another one anytime soon.  I don't blame the industry for catering to its audience, I support what i like and pass on ones that don't interest me.
