I think the fear around hacking autonomous vehicles is overblown. Commercial AV's aren't driven by any sort of remote network that would allow the kind of scenario you're describing. Maybe you could overload a company's servers but all that would do is stop software updates temporarily. Perhaps you could physically sabotage individual vehicles but how's that any different from now? The worst that could come of most attacks is simply shutting down your car but that's not gonna benefit anyone or be any worse than your average mechanical breakdown. The biggest threat in practice will probably be theft via cloned keyfobs and such but again that's stuff that already exists today and will be less of an issue when there's signifantly lower incentive to own your own car in the first place.
