My point is to argue against the claim that I had terrible taste for being much more into Metroid and Metroid 2 than the later Metroid sequels and spinoffs.

While I'm not defending the guy that told you that liking Metroid 2 is "terrible taste" (telling someone that they have terrible taste just for liking a game is universally one of the least productive ways of debating ever), responding by claiming that it's impossible to even consider Super Metroid or Prime as some of the best games of their time has to be one of the most backwards ways of countering a silly argument that I've ever seen.
