Ik this is gonna sound weird but I like the wiiU gamepad's ergonomics better than the switch in portable mode. Because the wiiU gamepad had some stuff for my fingers to hold on to where as the Switch in portable mode is just flat.

This.  Initial impression of the Switch in portable mode is not very comfortable.  Less comfortable relative to Wii U gamepad... which you know, is not the most comfortable controller either but you can get used to it.  Much less comfortable than full size controllers like DS4/XB1.

I think in general it depends what you compare to.  Comfortable vs any other portables, not comfortable vs any other consoles.

No hand cramps here.

I have a Pro controller but I still lounge back on the sofa with the Joy-Cons separated, one arm hanging over the side and the other arm in my lap just like the old Wiimote/Nunchuck days.
So relaxing playing Zelda: BOTW like this.

And I have not experienced any Joy-Con disconnection issues yet.

This seems to be the most comfortable way to play.
