The DS wasn't competing with the PS2. It was being compared to the GBA and PSP.

The Switch is competing with the PS4. They will be compared.

Switch vs PS4 is similar to DS vs PS2 as they are devices who have different form factors, different system features and different software libraries.

Sure, people will compare them but that doesnt change that they are completely different types of devices and in the grand scheme of things everything that costs money is in competition with one another.

DS had to compete with GBA, PSP, PS2 & XB just like Switch has to compete with phones, tablets, PS4 & XBO. Its reallly not that different of a situation. Switch's success will come down to whether people find it to be a compelling device regardless of how well other devices sell just like DS was successful on its own merits.

The Wii U and PS4 have different form factor and system features lol. The software libraries better be shared between Switch and PS4 or it won't get much. Considering how many of the games announced for Switch are ports of games already on PS4, not sure you can make that statement. With Nintendo seemingly determined to call Switch a console, not a handheld, the DS/PS2 comparison doesn't hold water imo.
