Even the amount of units the 3DS has shifted has shrunk.
3DS: 62 Million vs DS 154 Million.

Gameboy Advance did 81.5 million, Gameboy 118  million.

So it's the worst selling mainstream Handheld for Nintendo to date.

The market has shrunk and shifted... I think the main reason Nintendo was able to retain success in the handheld market is due to cost and the fact they target their handhelds to younger audiences... But it can't be denied that Mobile has eaten into that, some kids would prefer a tablet over a Nintendo Handheld these days.

Compared it to GB is unfair..  It had a very long run.

.... but most of those sales came from the last third of the gameboy's life. It sold somewhere around 60 million of that 118 million after FY97, 10 years after the gameboy came on the market. Pokemon is a hell of a system seller.
