Similar thing happened over here in the UK after Brexit. When a campaign is based on racist or anti-immigrant rhetoric then you better believe the supporters of said campaign will feel emboldened to be openly racist if they win.
It's shameful how the lessons of the past just don't get learnt. Humans really are unfit to govern themselves.
