GameCritics: 5/10 ( i knew it...)

While I think Mr. Forman is being unduly harsh, he makes some good points.

"It’s almost a totally binary system, generally unsatisfying and overused given that these massive traversal sections only serve to pad out the time between major setpieces. No matter how many times a ledge crumbles away in his grip, or how often a building explodes as he’s scaling it, it never becomes involving in a mechanical sense."

I totally agree with this assessment. So many of these sequences are on automatic. Sometimes while climbing in Uncharted 4 I just pressed up on the left stick and checked my phone for new text messages. It's all just so uninvolving. There are exceptions of course. That clock tower. Wow. That demands careful timing, precision jumps, and some mental exercise.

"If Uncharted 4 played even half as good as it looked, it would be a masterpiece…"

Again, I agree. Technically, Uncharted 4 is a work of art. The draw distance, the textures, the lighting, the image quality, the water effects, the motion capture - it's world-class. If Naughty Dog spent the same energy crafting interesting and involving gameplay, the game would be unstoppable.

That's not to say Uncharted 4 has bad gameplay. I'd rather call it uneven. For every scripted, automatic sequence there's a captivating firefight that demands quick thinking and tactical gunplay. Starting in chapter 17 the game really hits fifth gear. It's spectacular from that point on.  But many of the early chapters are just on auto-pilot.
