Oh really? And what it would be the best option? Aiming control with the right analogic? All of you that bash the game for the controls are completely clueless.

Tip: When you face a game that has controls that you are not used with it... practice it! I'm sure if you are Star Fox fan, you will enjoy the game as you get better with it.

Controls for SF64 where perfect.

SFZ flopped because of it's controls, it's okay if you liked them, but the game would have sold way more if it had traditional controls.

It's just nostalgia talking. SFZ refined the controls, playing SF64 again make me realized how it is limited the aim locked in the flight direction. People are just too stubborn to realize this. Giroaiming is the natural evolution for the franchise: precise and fast. The game evolved around this. How you would shoot a drone in SFZ with SF64 controls? Flying sky high then noise diving in the target direction? I could go on and show more examples, but I don't feel like doing a long post.

So about the sales, let me start with this:

is on rail shooter popular nowadays?

When was released the last the SF game? Did it pass 1M sales?

How about the Wii U? the console that is in the end of its days, that will reach not even 15M?

A SFZ with traditional controls would even make a difference?
