Actually Nintendo didn't kill Wii to early, if you look history of Nintendo consoles usually they have life span of around 5 years where last year is completely dead, Wii had life span of 6 years where last two years were dead. So actual problem with Wii is that Nintendo has it too long on market without successor, while in meantime all Wii owners migreated on mobile and PS3/Xbox360 platforms. Wii successor needed to arrive in 2011, not at end of 2012.

From Wii U perspective, NX launch in 2016. would be rushed because Nintendo consoles usually have life span of around 5 years where last year is dead, but from development side of NX and preparing launch I dont think it will be rushed at all. I dont think 3rd parties and Wii U owners will piss becuse its well known that Wii U selling terible and Nintendo alrede relased almost all biggest franchaises for it, 2016. launch and shorter Wii U life is somehow expected so it can't be really any surprise.

I dont think we will see next PS/Xbox consoles before 2019, and Nintendo definitely can't wait so long with Wii U and best choice is to launch new console fastest they can and that's definitely end of 2016.

I know 7th gen lifecycle was a very long one, I meant "early" killing of Wii referred to its successor's launch, as Ninty used the same Wii brand, so it should have kept it "alive" instead of letting people perceive it as forsaken.
About NX launch from Wii U perspective, I see we quite agree, but I don't agree about launching NX in 2016 anyway (at least not "Home NX"), I agree that Ninty cannot wait for PS and XB next consoles launches, but 2017 would give NX a lead long enough to bring great benefits without being so early to allow Sony and MS to play the tricks I suggested. About Wii U users: most of them don't follow and care about sales numbers, they chose and supported it and the only thing they'd see would be their console abandoned too early for their tastes. About devs and publishers, well it's just matter of how many actually believed even just a little in Wii U, and how much they invested to support it, and how many instead totally snubbed it, but are still ready to support a better selling Ninty console without any negative bias. Wii U is selling terrible, but it still has some chances to match or outsell GC sales lifetime (including possible low sales after NX launch), and we know that GC low sales didn't prevent Wii from being a great success.
Nintendo has almost always great profitability and it has a huge cash, and it's not bloated at all, it just has little more than 5000 employees, maybe the solution could just be to hire a hundred devs to better support Wii U and 3DS at the end of their lives while being at the same time able to develop games full steam for NX launch, but maybe NX almost unified portable and home architecture could allow Ninty to do it even without hiring new devs.
