Sony will probably set some new launch records, but what do those really mean. Even the Gamecube set launch records in the UK. Launch records are a testament to growing populations and increasing efficiency in production, logistics and retail. This is not particular to either Sony, Nintendo or MS, not even to the videogame industry at all. Our times are a shopper's paradise. No launch day sales can convince me of the success of any one system.
